Andrew King is an optician specialising in contact lens practice. In 1991, he was awarded the contact lens diploma by the British College of Optometrists which recognises particular knowledge and training in this clinical field. (Dip.C.L.P.).
The practice has gained a reputation for fitting almost all types of contemporary contact lenses e.g: Rigid gas permeable lenses, disposable soft lenses, multifocal and toric lenses.
By reason of its highly professional profile, the practice enjoys an excellent relationship with all the major contact lens manufacturers.
Existing contact lens wearers are advised to wear their lenses when attending appointments at the practice.
These are exciting times for the contact lens industry!
Recent improvements in lens designs and materials have made it possible to offer many spectacle wearers an alternative to their glasses. Andrew King Optician offers a full contact lens service from initial assessment through to regular after care examinations. This includes a comprehensive range of lenses and care solutions at competitive prices.
Advantages of Contact Lenses
Here are some of the advantages contact lenses offer compared with spectacles:
- Contact lenses do not distract from your natural appearance, people can see your eyes! There are no unsightly thick spectacle lenses.
- Contact lenses give good vision over the whole of your field of vision. And there are no annoying distractions caused by spectacle frames or lens reflections.
- Contact lenses are extremely lightweight and do not put pressure upon your nose or behind your ears.
- Contact lenses are more practical for many sports.
- Contact lenses match everything you wear!
For many people disposable soft lenses offer a convenient, healthy and affordable way of wearing contact lenses.
People of all ages can wear contact lenses. There is no upper or lower age limit to successful lens wearing. Responsibility and positive attitude are more important than age.
Daily Soft Disposable Contact Lenses
Daily soft disposable lenses have revolutionised contact lenses - you simply throw them away after use. These lenses are the ultimate in convenience - they can be worn full time, part time or just for occasional wear e.g: holidays, special occasions and sport.
Andrew King Optician particularly recommends the Contact 55 range of daily disposable soft lenses. These are very comfortable to wear and best of all, they are very affordable.

Free Trial Contact Lenses
For both daily or monthly disposable contact lenses, it is often possible to arrange a brief trial period when prospective lens wearers may experience what it is like wearing contact lenses. There is usually no charge for these trial lenses.
Contact Lenses by Post
Many contact lens wearers appreciate the convenience that their lenses offer, but not the inconvenience of frequent trips to the practice to collect lenses and care solutions. Now Andrew King Optician, in conjunction with lens manufacturer Sauflon, is able to offer a time saving and convenient new service: Contact Lenses by Post.
At no extra charge, Sauflon disposable contact lenses and their care solutions can be delivered every 3 months to your address. A special flat pack has been developed in order that the lenses and solutions can be posted through your letter box. Please note that you are still required to visit the practice at least once a year for your after care assessments.
Continuous Wear Contact Lenses
Up to 30 days of continuous contact lens wear is now a reality for many people thanks to the recent launch of Bausch & Lomb’s Purevision monthly disposable lens. This lens is the result of ten years of development and trials conducted worldwide. In clinical assessments it has proved very successful. For many wearers, these lenses offer the convenience of continuous wear i.e. day and night, with remarkably clear vision and comfort. The modified lens surface gives consistent ‘wetting’ and resistance to tear film deposits, whilst the lens material provides a natural level of oxygen to the eye allowing it to ‘breathe’. Another advantage is the considerable reduction in the number of times the lenses have to be cleaned or handled.
The exciting new Purevision lenses are available at a surprisingly low monthly fee inclusive of after care appointments. Please enquire at the practice for further details.
Please note that contact lens specifications supplied by the practice are for products only available from qualified eye care professionals and registered practices.
Contact Lens Watch Points
When wearing your contact lenses always ask yourself;
1. Do your eyes feel comfortable?
2. Do your eyes look healthy?
3. Is your vision sharp and clear?
If the answer is ‘no’ to any of these questions, then remove your contact lenses and contact the practice as soon as possible.
